
Ministry of Health Islamabad in the latest press release decided to conduct the Medical and Dental College Entrance Test (MDCAT) for the prisoners. Pakistan Medical Commission PMC issued this notification yesterday (15 December 2022). Also, the PMC has followed the instructions of Hon’ble Federal Minister for Health Mr. Abdul Qadir Patel and directed all the Vice Chancellors of Public Sector to conduct the MDCAT exams in jail next year.
The PMC has initiated the process of conducting MDCAT exams in prisons for candidates by directing universities to set up centers in jails. Jail staff and concerned authorities will make appropriate arrangements to facilitate the universities. A candidate appearing in MDCAT will now have an opportunity to pursue further education till the completion of his sentence. They have educational opportunities to lead a new life instead of being dragged into the same unpleasant conditions.

Providing educational opportunities to inmates will also reinforce the perception that inmates are committed to character improvement rather than serving time served. This is the first time in Pakistan that MDCAT exam is being conducted in prison to facilitate bright and intelligent students to become doctors and nurses.
